I am experiencing the same problem with my brand new (2 months old) laptop, which is at dell as i post this, because of this error.
I think (not sure) it was the update to 2.6.15-22, that corrupted my clock. Some other thing I noticed is that support for the wireless card was build-in, but not working. 2.6.15-23 fixed that. Maybe it has something to do with it?

I'll be getting my laptop back tomorrow, I think. Does anyone know if
it's safe to run the final of dapper with my inspiron 6400?

To Ken: Do you mean that pressing ctrl-alt-del will get i through the
"Time-of-day clock stopped" error?
