I have the same Problem with a USB attached IDE harddisk and I am using
a fresh installed and up to date Dapper 6.06 LTS with k7-kernel. It
seems to me that the problem came with one of the newer kernel updates,
because before I reinstalled my computer I could switch back to an older
kernel and the drive worked fine. But I don't know which the newest
kernel image it was, that worked with the drive.
