[Bug 28296] noprobe does not function in Ubuntu kernel 2.6.12-9-k7

Comment:
Options file did not exist. Created with contents "option ide-core
noprobe"

Ran sudo dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-`uname -r`

Added the ide0=noprobe and ide1=noprobe to the kernel params in the grub
list, confirmed existence at bootup, did not correct problem.  Closer to
gnome starting, errors came through to the effect of 'bad line in
/etc/modprobe.d/options starting with option'

No articles in the wiki about upgrading from breezy to dapper without
downloading the entire dapper CD.
