I'm also having the same problem with the same wireless card and almost
the same laptop (Thinkpad R51). Having removed network-manager from my
system, the system still freezes (with the same syslog output) when I
manually scan for wireless networks, i.e. if I issue: sudo iwlist eth1
scan
