Can you try unloading the sg_mod module? I don't think scsi generic is
really useful anymore (applications should just be able to access scd0
directly).

I'm guessing that Knoppix might work because either a) it isn't loading
sg_mod, or b) isn't starting whatever process is causing the clash.
