The output of ifup tells me that it isn't configured correctly (check
/etc/network/interfaces)

Noted, and fixed for -12. But this doesn't keep the system from working.

The card is still working, you really have to configure it properly. If ifup
fails in the way you showed, then it is not configured. And that's not an error
of the driver, that's a user issue :)
