I see the similar problems, and the same message, on my system using
linux-image-2.6.15-16-amd64-k8 (_2.6.15-16.23) and an Intel PRO/Wireless
2915ABG MiniPCI adapter (PCI ID 8086:1000).  When the network goes away,
the ipw2000/0 kernel thread is in D state -- I'm not sure exactly what
it is waiting on, but would be glad to help diagnose if someone can give
directions on what to look at or change.
