Comment:
I am overjoyed to report that things have much, MUCH improved in the
last few days. The drive used to be 200% useless (detected by the kernel
at boot.... and that was about it ! ), but now if I insert a blank CD in
the drive, Nautilus detects it instantly, and I can successfully burn an
ISO (I tried with Flight 4 ISO) at full speed without a glith, with no
kernel messages other than those :
Feb 22 03:51:34 Lotus-Esprit kernel: [4296634.108000] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
Feb 22 03:51:50 Lotus-Esprit kernel: [4296649.993000] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
Feb 22 03:51:50 Lotus-Esprit kernel: [4296650.003000] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
Feb 22 03:51:50 Lotus-Esprit kernel: [4296650.028000] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
I also tried burning an audio CD using Rhythmbox, and that worked too,
although not quite glitch free : many kernel messages were printed, I
got an error window (with no really informative content AFAIR) at the
end of the burning process, and the CD drive was unable to mount the CD.
However if I put the CD in a different drive (my DVD drive for
instance), Nautilus detects it properly as an audio CD, and RB can play
it perfectly.
Also, as a bonus, the drive can now READ CD's just fine. In Breezy, it
would write but not read.
So as far as I am concerned, it now works, and even better than in
Breezy... I just hope it won't break again by the time Dapper gets
released ! ;-P
