I can confirm it is probably not BIOS related - I have dual-boot config with Kubuntu Breezy and Dapper and I see these messages (just before splash screen) only on Dapper boot.
I have HP nw8240. 
I would expect it is some difference beween Breezy and Dapper kernel version (as this is the only active module at that early stage of boot).
