I tried to do it manually and it wouldn't work at all. I did a fresh install
just tonight and the kernel works like a charm. I am not sure what the
changes were, but it works great.

Others may have an issue, but when it comes to my eth0 cord, I never have an
issue, I think you're refering to the other user who was mentioning about
the card, hence I don't use a card :)
