So you are saying that the cards work if you configure them by hand? If
that's the case, this isn't a kernel bug. Sounds more like either your
/etc/network/interfaces file isn't setup right, or some other hotplug
issue (maybe the old auto+hotplug issue).

Please confirm that you were able to make the network cards work by
manual configuration.
