Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
I am experiencing problems with fan managment on my PowerMac G5 1.8 MHz.
single CPU tower. I am using Kubuntu Breezy PPC with all of the latest
updates. According to the Debian PowerPC list, this is a known issue
that should have been solved,
I have found no mention of this issue here, but I should warn that I
have also experienced the same problems with an Ubuntu Dapper Flight 3
PPC install, so the problem definately still exists in the latest full
build on my machine. The next step is to try a Kubuntu Dapper Flight 3
PPC today's build live-CD.
The symptoms are the same as have been posted on the Debian PowerPC
list. 5 minutes or less, after booting into Kubuntu, the fans on my G5
start revving. As long as I am in Kubuntu, they do not return to normal.
I can let my G5 run for about 15 minutes, before I need to shutdown. The
CPU seems to be working at normal level, at least at the beginning of
the rev cycle, but I am not sure if that remains the same all of the way
through and/or if the temperature increases.
I am a newbie, so I am not able to diagnose a lot of what is going on
with the fan control.
