I confirm this bug, as it happens also with MacOS 8.5 on my powerbook G3 (wallstreet + sonnet upgrade card)
Other kernels (breezy, sarge) can boot it properly.

Did you try to boot it with miboot or quik? (i'm planning to try this
during next week-end)
