Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30273
Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
linux-image-2.6.15-14-powerpc version 2.6.15-14.19
fails to boot on this PowerBook Wallstreet.
linux-image-2.6.15-1-powerpc version 2.6.15-3 (debian)
functions, albeit with wake-from-sleep crash.
the kernel config files differ in some important ways that are probably pertinent:
config-2.6.15-14-powerpc:CONFIG_PPC_MPC106=y
config-2.6.15-1-powerpc: <this line does not exist>
chas at ubuntu-seahack:/boot$ dmesg | grep 106
[ 0.000000] Found Grackle (MPC106) PCI host bridge at 0x80000000. Firmware bus number: 0->0
the functioning debian kernel 2.6.15-1-powerpc boots as follows:
1. BootX open
2. Click "Linux"
3. HDD spins down, screen blanks, "linux 2.6.15-1", mmu: mapping, other preliminary kernel messages appear
4. Standard linux boot process, kernel ring buffer messages scroll by en route to successful bootup.
the failing ubuntu kernel-2.6.15-14 fails as follows:
1. BootX open
2. Select vmlinux-2.6.15-14-powerpc
3. Select initrd.img-2.6.15-14-powerpc
4. Click "Linux"
5. Mouse pointer disappears, MacOS GUI remains on-screen.
6. Machine remains in this state.
This is a blocker for this hardware... would love to help resolve it.
Thanks!
