[Bug 50601] Clean install hangs,Ubuntu Server 6.06

Public bug reported:

Tried to install Ubuntu Server 6.06 twice on a Dell Inspiron 8600
laptop. Both times on first boot, stopped at "Uncompressing Linux ..
Okay, booting kernel".  No further messages.

To further clarrify...the installation goes fine. It is on the first
boot after the installation...when booting off the HD, that the failure
occurs.
