Public bug reported:

System: Intel 630 EM64T w/1.0GB memory, Abit AG8-v motherboard,
Hyperthreading enabled, SATA hard drive.

Trying to boot 6.06 RC Desktop AMD64 in live mode

Get 1st menu OK
Start...within about 2 seconds, no second splash screen, get the following in pure text mode:
<0> Kernel Panic - Not Syncing: Attempted to Kill Init!

Statement before the KP:
CR2: 00000000e0100000

Tried to start with "live" at the F6 option same results as above

Tried to start with "live acpi=off" and the system booted, but my
network could not automatically connect - other parts of Kubuntu seemed
to work OK

Tried the 6.06 RC 32-bit version and all is well including the
networking

Tried 6.06 RC 64-bit on an AMD 64-bit system and all worked well
including the networking

Ubuntu 5.10 Live for AMD64 works OK on this machine; No kernel panic,
loads properly, connects to network without any special setups.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Medium
         Status: Fix Released
