Booting with mem=1000m (with mem=1G it caused me a kernel panic saying initrd extends beyond end of memory) indeed fixes this problem. Sorry if this is a duplicate, I have read other bug reports about bcm43xx issues, but they seemed to have been closed or to be related to other platforms (i386, ppc).
Btw, I have moved to edgy, and with kernel 2.6.17-6 I have built from source with CONFIG_IOMMU_DEBUG=y and CONFIG_IOMMU_LEAK=y the problem is also fixed.
