Booting with 

$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.15-21-686 (buildd at rothera) (gcc version 4.0.3 (Ubuntu 4.0.3-1ubuntu5)) #1 SMP PREEMPT Fri Apr 21 16:57:03 UTC 2006

without "pci=noacpi" did not work.  

It looks like "pci=noacpi" is necessary for me.  I wonder what changed?
