Public bug reported:
Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
Severity: Normal
Priority: (none set)
Status: Unconfirmed
Description:
In the i386 dapper drake flight5 release the 3crusb10075 usb wifi dongle
was detected (showed up in network settings), but failed to connect to a
wireless network (regardless of weather ip address was set to static or
dhcp). The network is configured to use WEP encryption.
With dapper drake flight 6 I tried the AMD64 release and noticed the usb
wifi dongle was not detected at all. I tried doing "modprobe zd1211" to
load the kernel module for the device and then doing an "ifconfig wlan0
up" to enable the device. Trying to bring the interface up causes the
machine to lock up entirely, with no ability to switch to a virtual
terminal or restart X Windows.
Reading ubuntuforums.org, some people have suggested that the zd1211
driver included with dapper drake is over a year out of date, compared
with the latest version of the driver and that newer versions work much
better, notably with AMD64 machines.
