Yes, Adam; please pop the install CD into your installed system (it should be mounted automatically), run "sudo udevmonitor -e" and then unplug it

This should be a reasonablish simulation of the events

Then attach the output of that command; this should tell us whether or not the kernel informs us of the disconnection.
