Susan, had you a dv1000 laptop it'd probably have an ipw2xxx card in it and you should be able to control the led state the way I mentioned. In an Acer Ferrari, with a Broadcomm card, I have no idea. 

Yet, you can try to run the following command, while being at the /sys/bus/pci/drivers directory:

% find . -name '*led*'

If it prints anything, it will be the directory and the full name of the file. Before setting the flag to 1,  check what flags you driver supports, if any.
