Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
The 2.6.15.* kernels fail to boot on Dapper with amd 1700+ cpu and nVidia Corporation nForce chipset.
(here the result of lspci
bash: lspci: command not found
[mats at Aqua ~]$ /sbin/lspci

00:05.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce Audio (rev c2)
00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce Audio (rev c2)

00:09.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation nForce IDE (rev c3)
00:1e.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation nForce AGP to PCI Bridge (rev b2)
01:07.0 USB Controller: ALi Corporation USB 1.1 Controller (rev 03)

01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139 C+ (rev 10)
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2)
)

The boot process appears to stop with :
Booting 'Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.15-18-386'
root (hd0,0)
Filesystme tye is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.15-18-386 root=/dev/hda1 ro quiet splash
[Linux-bzimage, setup=0x1e00, size=0x156718]
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.15-18-386
[Linux-initrd @ 0x1f9ac000, 0x62fcba bytes]
savedefault
boot

I have four partitions: /boot (ext2), /swap, / (ext3), /home (ext3).
I haven't any problem with the kernels from breezy and the Suse's 2.6.16 kernel.

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'kernel-
image-2.6.15-9-386-di'; however, that package was not published in
Ubuntu.
