It doesn't seem to be.  I didn't do a complete reboot, but I unloaded the snd-hda-intel module, remove the position_fix line from my modutils configuration, reloaded the module, and now music in Banshee still sounds crystal clear.

If you want me to do a complete reboot and a fresh module load, I can test again tomorrow.
