I can capture the Fn keys by reading /dev/input/event4
Albert, can you confirm this? Just cat /dev/input/event4, press the fn keys and check if there is any output. 
On my SZ110, the customizable keys S1 and S2 are also captured on event4.

Does anyone know how to use these events to create shortcuts in gnome?
