Albert, have you tried suspending your SZ, and then tried the fn keys? It worked for me sometimes... Can you confirm the same behavior on yours? (Suspend somewhat works with the intel chipset)

Anyone: Any idea why this is happening?
I think not having the fn keys working is a pretty major issue. It's particularly annoying when you're booting gnome in the classroom with the volume at its max and you can't do anything to mute it! :)
