EXCELLENT NEWS!

The 2.6.17-rc1 kernel makes this bug virtually disappear.

cd-r disks mount as expected
cd-rw disks can be written to successfully using nautilus.
None of the previous nasty kernel error messages occur.

The remaining wrinkle is that the following messages occur in dmesg during a burn:
[4319535.861000] scsi: unknown opcode 0xe9
[4319535.861000] scsi: unknown opcode 0xed
[4319538.762000] scsi: unknown opcode 0x01

and two others. However there appear no bad side effects and I noted that similar messages occured with the breezy kernel.

So I would say this bug might be able to be closed if the aic79xx changes noted above could be backported to dapper.

Ben is that possible??? PLEASE!

Note: I do not know whether aic7xxx is fixed in rc1 however.....
