Was linux-image-2.6.12-9-386 still installed ?

I would be surprised if dpkg managed to delete files under these kind
of conditions - it's normally pretty careful.

Do the maintainer scripts mess with these files ?  Would you like me
to take a look at the relevant .debs ?
