[Bug 29825] dapper kernel doesn't boot from scsi disk on b/w G2 (powerpc)

Description:
[couldn't assign the bug to the kernel image, which was not in the list
of options, so stuck it to ubuntu-meta!]

While install & live cd's boot fine, and I can also boot off of an ide
disk, neither the breezy northe dapper kernels boot off of my scsi
disks.  Presumably this is a problem with the initrd/initramfs's, which
I guess can't find my scsi bus (or possibly get confused by the
existence of the legacy "MESH" scsi bus which was uselessly implanted on
blue&white G3's).

I was able to roll my own 2.6.15 kernel & fix the problem, using an
older debian kernel of my own as a model.  This kernel does not use an
initrd, so perhaps not a good model, but I would be willing to try out
other options in an effort to fix the bug -- especially if I can get
some guidance on this, since I'm just a li'l old user.
