I'm also experiencing this on my Dell e1505 (aka Inspiron 6400) as well.  When I first installed Flight 5 sound was functional and after full patching sound was dead.

The gist I've been able to glean from Ubuntu Forums is that this is a known issue among the developers and will be corrected on the next kernel update.  Acer and Travelmate laptops seem to have the same chipset and are also experiencing the issue.
