Tried the colony-5 Live.  Same thing.
Looked in /var/log
messages (last line): insmod ...... ide/ide-cd.ko
syslog (last lines):   hw-detect: Detected module 'ide-cd' ............
                      hw-detect:  trying to load module 'ide-cd'
stays like this for at least 10 mins.
