With linux-image-2.6.12-9-k7 I do not have any graphical boot - just a blank
screen - with and without usplash. When Init launches Xorg and gdm, everything
works fine again. So it seems like the framebuffer driver is somehow broken in
this kernel. 

With linux-image-2.6.12-8-k7 I do not have any problem at all.

The option I pass to the kernel to switch into graphical mode is "vga=791".

My video card is "nVidia Corporation NV34 [GeForce FX 5200] (rev a1)".
