I really think this was a case of user error, or a problem that doesn't exist
anymore. Maybe synaptic was waiting for user input, or something in the old
kernel-package made a bad .deb.

Also, the last submitter is talking about a totally unrelated problem that seems
to affect ppc users who have xfs as their root filesystem.
