Argh.  It seems unavoidable that we need to split this bug, then.

Who is seeing the hdparm -B related hang, and who is seeing the laptop-mode
hang?  Note that disabling laptop-mode previously seemed to prevent the hang for
me, but further testing revealed that hdparm -B seemed at fault (comment #55).
