I'm surprised that this results in it failing to resume. There's no kernel code
to switch off the screen - it should only turn off when the power is cut to the
machine, which is the very last thing that happens. By then the image should
already have hit disk. This sounds like a kernel bug of some description, but
I've no idea what.
