Okay, Alexander, could you please add 'nvidia' to /etc/hotplug/blacklist,
restart, and do something like this:
$ sudo tail -f /var/log/dmesg &
$ sudo modprobe nvidia

and tell us if dmesg shows anything interesting while you're loading nvidia.
