There are two main classes of PCMCIA controller:
1) Legacy PCMCIA, handled by the i82365 driver. These are generally ISA parts.
2) Cardbus, handled by yenta_socket. These are (exclusively?) PCI parts.
On a laptop, if you don't have the latter you almost certainly have the former.
I'm not aware of any cases where the i82365 probing causes any problems. This
certainly isn't a kernel problem, though.
