Having studied the forums over at eagle-usb.org, I have managed to resolve the
issue by re-compiling the eagle-usb kernel module using the gcc-3.4 compiler, to
match the version used to compile the standard ubuntu kernel.

The problem appears to be that the kernel module in the current eagle-usb
package has been compiled using a later version of gcc than the kernel itself
was compiled with.

I don't know anything about packaging, so all I can suggest is that anyone with
more knowledge than myself perhaps try the proposed fix and if happy, update the
eagle-usb package to suit.
