nvidia-kernel-common is a red herring here, it won't ever have the same version
number as nvidia-glx-legacy or nvidia-kernel-legacy, and that's fine.
If you guys have reasonably new nvidia hardware, you should have the
"nvidia-glx" package installed, and NOT have "nvidia-glx-legacy" or
"linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`-nvidia-legacy"... Purge both of those and
reboot and see if that clears it up.
Alternately, if your hardware is a bit old, make sure you have both
"nvidia-glx-legacy" and "linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`-nvidia-legacy"
installed and reboot.
One of those two package combinations should make your systems happy. I'd
appreciate it if you could both report back on this.
