Are you positive you are booting linux-image-2.6.12-9-k7?  And are you also
positive that you rebooted after installing that kernel version and the matching
linux-restricted-modules?... The binary module in every
linux-resitricted-modules package is identical (except for the glue code that
gets compiled to link it to the kernel), so if one version matches, they all
should...
