Whoops, sorry about that.. I pasted the wrong URL...
Here's the real one:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=45644&highlight=ide2%3Dnoprobe
In kernels > 2.6.8 it used to probe ide2 ide3 ide4 and ide5 looking for
devices. Each probe would time out after 30 seconds, making starting linux a
painful task. This was fixed by adding ide2=noprobe ide3=noprobe ide4=noprobe
ide5=noprobe...
In the new kernel the message does not show that it is probing.. Here's my
bootup messsage:
ide1 at 0x170-0x177, 0x376 on irq 15
***freeze***
It then continues as normal:
hda: max request size: 128KiB
hda: 58605120 sectors (300005MB) w/1768KiB Cache, CHS 58140/16/63, UDMA(100)
hda: cache flushes not supported
/dev/ide/host0/bus0/target0/lun0: p1 p2 < p5 p6 p7 p8 p9 >
hdc: ATAPI 24x DVD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 2048 Cache
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.20
No combination of idex=noprobe will change anything here.
This is on a toshiba satellite 2400.
