Summary: System won't boot after security update - kernel update.
2.6.10-34.6
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: linux
AssignedTo: ben.collins at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: wpiez at melbpc.org.au
QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
I have never submitted a bug report and have also posted this to the forums.
I have been successfully running Ubuntu (Hoary) on an old system (AMD Duron CPU
on Gigabyte 7ZXE Mb (It has an Apollo KT133A chipset) with 512mb Ram dual
booting with Win 98.
After the latest kernel update downloaded via auto "software updates"
Grub menu comes up OK with options, Windows 98 works normally but both Linux
options (normal and failsafe) get to the line
"Uncompressing Linux... OK, Booting the kernel."
and then the system hangs.
I thought there must have been a problem with the download. I succesfully
reloaded Ubuntu from the CD, Used the system for a few days and then downloaded
all security updates including the latest kernel update. 2.6.10-34.6
I now have the same problem.
If you would like me to test and check anything else on this system please let
me know. The other systems at home have no problems so I assume this is specific
to this hardware. I will otherwise reload earlier version of ubuntu and avoid
this update.
