Summary: patch for 3c59x on IBM A21p (and others)
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: linux
        AssignedTo: ben.collins at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: olive at deep-ocean.net
         QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

When using BIOS 1.11 on IBM A21p, the kernel defaults to using ACPI. Everything
runs just fine on this laptop with acpi enabled (thermal zone, speedstep,
suspend-to-ram (see another bog report i'll make for the ATI chip draining
battery while suspended), buttons...), except the integrated 3Com card that the
BIOS start in D3hot state instead of D0. The kernel patch at
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-kernel&m=112247477326714&q=raw seems to
completely solve the problem of this two years old bug.

Note that this bug affects many models of thinkpads and 3com cards, so it is a
good thing to integrate it.

See

http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1188

and

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=158725

for much details about this bugs, and workarounds to use without the kernel
patch (the setpci one corrects the problem on my machine ; i couldn't test the
"pci-config" one as i can't find "pci-config" in the net-tools ubuntu package).
