I'll try to borrow a digital camera later this evening--might be tomorrow before
I'll have time to use it though (ref.: I'm at UTC+01).  Otherwise I'll write
down some more lines from the preceding messages (or are/can these be
logged/saved somewhere?).

Additional info that might be useful is that usplash doesn't work right (when
enabled): it changes the color palette, but the screens stays in text mode,
which results in garbage being shown.  (The hanging also happens without usplash
though.)
