I have exactly this problem too with a Del Inspiron 6000 with ipw2200 and a
linksys wap 54g, even with the latest kernel from dapper
linux-image-2.6.15-3-686 (and have had through the breezy dev cycle too).

[17179602.940000] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, git-1.0.8
[17179602.940000] ipw2200: Copyright(c) 2003-2005 Intel Corporation
[17179602.940000] Warning: PCI driver ipw2200 has a struct device_driver
shutdown method, please update!
[17179602.940000] ipw2200: Detected Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network
Connection[17179613.068000] ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting.
[17179613.068000] ipw2200: Sysfs 'error' log captured.
[17179683.880000] ipw2200: Unknown notification: subtype=40,flags=0xa0,size=40

I'd send the sysfs error log if I could work out how, but it didn't appear in
dmesg, nor in /sys that I could see!
