I managed to get the BENQ DW1640 working after a lot of hassle. Same behaviour
as described here.  That was on Hoary and Breezy was imminent. I haven't checked
if that problem occurs with Breezy.

The computer with the DW1640 has an Intel chipset. The module for the via
chipset was being loaded. I went into expert mode and unchecked the
module via82cxxx and the installation worked. I've got an Intel motherboard.  I
also put piix as the first module in /etc/modules.
