I did what was suggested in bug 11135; that is to install the initrd-tools from
the breezy repositories and reconfigured my kernel packages but the problem
persisted.
I even installed several new kernels but this did not change anything; the same
problem with all kernels.  I still get the same error, which is different from
the one mentioned in bug 11135.

I changed the package of this bug, as I no longer think it is kernel-related.
