Summary: Hollywood+/dxr3 support using em8300 driver
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
               URL: http://linux.sgms-centre.com/misc/dxr3/
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: enhancement
          Priority: P2
         Component: linux
        AssignedTo: fabbione at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: mvirkkil at cc.hut.fi
         QAContact: kernel-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

One of the most common chipsets on old tv out cards (mpeg-cards) is the
Hollywood+/dxr3 chipset as it was supposedly well supported with Linux.
Unfortunately the driver has as of yet not been merged to the kernel even though
the source for the module has been in debian for ages (package is called em8300
but only for 2.4.x kernels afaik).

For 2.6 support see: http://linux.sgms-centre.com/misc/dxr3/

Both xine and mplayer support the use of this cihpset for output.

I'd like Ubuntu to support the chipset out of the box.
