I have a similar problem as well (with a separate thread for each of my three
aic7xxx boards). The problem seems to be related to this:
http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/12/17/67

I tried with acpi=off noapic nolapic and with smp and non-smp kernels: same problem.

I rebuilt the kernel with "ACPI suspend state" (CONFIG_ACPI_SLEEP,
CONFIG_ACPI_SLEEP_PROC_FS) disabled, the problem went away.

There is a patch listed to fix this here: http://lkml.org/lkml/2004/12/17/187

I did not try the patch as this box is mission critical.
