i'm using 2.6.12-2-686 and i had also problem (kernel panic, see the attached
file), when doing iwlist scan, i noticed the crash was in a wep function.

I fixed the problem recompiling the sources from the official website.

for this working i had to comment a function is_multicast_ether_addr from
ieee80211.h otherwise it was conflicting with the same function define in
etherdevice.h (from 2.6.12 linux-headers)
