Are you sure the drive is ok?

ata1: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
ata1: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }

these kind of errors are a sign of either the hd dieing or a bad cable.

Can you reproduce the problem with kernels other than 2.6.10? perhpas 2.6.8.1
from warty
or (even better) 2.6.12 from breezy? (do NOT use 2.6.11 in hoary)
